The Basics: A fierce, creative, hardworking content strategist with a passion for accessibility and publishing; carries particular expertise in higher education, trade and technical publishing, and digital accessibility (documents and web). Seasoned and dangerous in ebook development, graphic design, storyboarding, and event planning. Experience in livestreaming, charity fundraising, and comics.
Pronouns: she/her
If you’re into the cosmos: Capricorn sun, Aries moon, Saggitarius rising.
Puzzles are my favorite; if I’m not screaming at NYT Connections’ purple category, I’m sorting out workflows and processes at my job, collaborating with a phenomenal team at the intersection of digital content, accessibility, and marketing.
Iris, Behind the Keyboard
I’m a Cuban/Puerto-Rican American originally from Miami, Florida, currently living near Boston, Massachusetts. I’m curious, colorful, and meticulous. I want to explore the world, as I know I haven’t seen enough of it.
I love exercising my imagination to create spaces for others to find ideas and solutions. Artistic and creative expression runs deeply through reading, writing, and drawing.
I deeply care about people—a mainstay from being raised by a dedicated social worker and a professor. I’m an empath with a very keen ability to break down barriers and quickly build trust.
I don’t wear masks (except on public transportation!).
I’m passionate at what I do and about what I believe in.
💼 On Work
I firmly believe that everyone has a chance to contribute significantly to a project or initiative if genuine collaboration is encouraged organically. I also believe in agency—trust the work to get done and it will get done.
🌱 On Life
After losing my mother to COVID-19, I learned very quickly what’s important and what isn’t. Folks aren’t kidding when they say life is short—I do my best now to set aside my anxieties and seize opportunities, despite uncertainty.
🔗 On Connection
Vulnerability is a gift. I believe empathy leads to more fruitful, rewarding connections in our personal and professional lives. Without vulnerability, we lose out on the discovery of experiences that can create formative moments and longlasting endeavors.
❌ On Mistakes
I learned as a young professional (albeit slowly) that perfectionism is a terrible habit, and difficult to kick. Mistakes are OK, so long as you face them, acknowledge them, own them, and let them go. They are not definitions, nor are they permanent.
🌭 On Food
Did you know that bánh mì is the best sandwich? Now you know!! You’re welcome! Also, a hot dog is NOT. A. SANDWICH.
